Ticket sales for this year’s Christmas pantomime at Rotherham Civic Theatre are booming, five months before it is set to start.
The local theatre had announced that this year’s pantomime will be ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ in December 2010 and they have already sold 8,000 tickets, since they went on sale in April.
This is the equivalent of nearly two weeks worth of shows and the strong sales look set to continue, as ticket sales have doubled in total since June and key dates from Monday 19 December to New Year’s Eve are selling out quickly.
Back to basics
Although the show is being produced by Spillers Pantomimes for the tenth consecutive year, the theatre are returning back to their traditional roots after recent pantomimes such as ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
Rotherham Civic Theatre are also running a beanstalk blog on their website that will see how much a beanstalk, planted by the company when the pantomime was announced, will grow by the time the show ends in January 2012.
“Pantomime tickets are selling exceptionally well and are up on previous years,” said Mark Scott, the manager of Rotherham Civic Theatre.
“We feel that doing ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ has created an additional buzz and interest, as we have not performed this title since the late 1990s.
“Last year’s pantomime sold to a 98% capacity and early indications are that this production will mirror that success.”
Providing family fun
The pantomime will star children’s television presenter Chris Till, singer Tara Verloop and comedian Dean Winters – and it also promises comedy, audience participation, special effects and a breakdancing cow.
Mr Scott also said that the production will provide family fun for everyone.
He added: “People should visit our pantomime because, in a hectic world, it gives families the opportunity to enjoy time together. The memories shared on that day will be cherished by children into their adult life.
“It’s also important for the sustainability of live theatre that children are introduced [to pantomimes] at a young age.
“Pantomime at the Civic Theatre is now a firm favourite within the town’s calendar. The pantomime is inclusive and bonds people from groups together in a happy environment.”
‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ runs from Friday 2 December 2011 to Sunday 6 January 2012, and tickets are priced from £10.50 for children, £12 for adults and £42 for a family ticket.
Tickets can be booked on 01709 823621, from the theatre’s box office – which is located in Rotherham Central Library & Arts Centre – or via the Rotherham Civic Theatre website.
